TL;DR: Same-day courier tracking gives you live GPS location, delivery notifications, and digital proof of delivery — photo, signature, timestamp, and GPS coordinates. No more wondering where your delivery is. Here's how it works.

The biggest frustration with traditional courier services is the black hole — you send something and have no idea where it is until it arrives (or doesn't). Same-day courier tracking eliminates that. You see exactly where your item is, in real time, from collection to delivery.

How courier tracking works

Step 1: Booking confirmed

When you submit your quote request, you receive an email confirmation with your job details: collection address, delivery address, item type, and quoted price.

Step 2: Driver assigned

Within 15 minutes, a driver is assigned to your job. You receive an SMS and email notification with the driver's name and vehicle details.

Step 3: Driver en route to collection

The driver heads to your collection address. You receive a notification with a live tracking link. Click it to see the driver's real-time location on a map.

Step 4: Item collected

When the driver collects your item, you receive a notification. The tracking now shows the driver en route to the delivery address.

Step 5: Live tracking during delivery

Watch the driver's progress on the map in real time. The tracking updates every few seconds, so you can see exactly when the driver is approaching the delivery address.

Step 6: Delivered

When the item is delivered, you receive a final email with:

  • Photo of the item at the delivery address
  • Signature of the recipient (if signature was required)
  • Timestamp of the exact delivery time
  • GPS coordinates confirming the delivery location

What you can see in the tracking portal

Live map

The driver's vehicle appears as a marker on a map, moving in real time. You can see:

  • Current location
  • Route being taken
  • Estimated arrival time at the delivery address

Job status

The tracking page shows the current status of your delivery:

  • Assigned — driver has been allocated to your job
  • En route to collection — driver heading to pick up your item
  • Collected — item has been picked up
  • En route to delivery — driver heading to the delivery address
  • Delivered — item has been successfully delivered

Driver details

You can see:

  • Driver's first name
  • Vehicle type and registration
  • Driver's phone number (if you need to contact them)

Delivery notifications

You receive notifications at each key stage:

  1. Booking confirmed — email with job details
  2. Driver assigned — SMS and email with driver info
  3. Out for collection — SMS with tracking link
  4. Item collected — email confirmation
  5. Out for delivery — SMS with tracking link
  6. Delivered — email with proof of delivery

Notifications go to both the sender and the recipient (if you provide the recipient's contact details).

Proof of delivery explained

Photo proof

The driver takes a photo of the item at the delivery address — typically showing the item at the recipient's door or in their hands. This provides visual confirmation that the item arrived safely.

Signature proof

If you request signature on delivery, the recipient signs on the driver's device. The signature is included in your proof-of-delivery email.

Timestamp

The exact date and time of delivery is recorded — to the second. This is important for legal documents and time-critical deliveries.

GPS coordinates

The delivery location's GPS coordinates are recorded, confirming the item was delivered to the correct address. This is particularly useful for deliveries to business premises or large buildings where the exact drop-off point matters.

What to do if there's a problem

Driver is late

Check the tracking link — you can see if the driver is stuck in traffic or delayed. If the driver is significantly delayed (more than 30 minutes beyond the estimated time), contact us at hello@hauly.co.uk.

No one at delivery address

The driver will call the recipient. If no one answers, the driver will wait 15-30 minutes, then contact you. You can arrange for the driver to wait longer, return the item to you, or attempt redelivery later. Additional charges may apply for extended waiting or redelivery.

Item damaged

All Hauly drivers carry goods-in-transit insurance (minimum £10,000 per load). If your item is damaged in transit, contact hello@hauly.co.uk within 48 hours with photos of the damage and your proof-of-delivery email.

Tips for a smooth tracked delivery

  1. Provide accurate contact details — for both sender and recipient. The tracking notifications go to the phone numbers and emails you provide.
  2. Tell the recipient to expect a delivery — they need to be at the delivery address to receive the item. Send them the tracking link once you have it.
  3. Keep your phone nearby — the driver may call if they can't find the address or if no one is at the delivery address.
  4. Check the tracking link regularly — if the driver seems to be going the wrong way, they may have hit a road closure or diversion. The tracking will update as they reroute.
  5. Save the proof-of-delivery email — for business deliveries, legal documents, or high-value items, keep the proof of delivery for your records.
