Same Day Parcel Delivery UK: Options, Prices, Limits

TL;DR: For same-day parcel delivery you need a dedicated courier, not a parcel network. A driver collects from your door and delivers direct, often within hours. On Hauly that costs £61 to £243 for journeys up to 200 miles, fixed before you pay, and there is no daily cut-off.

Most people searching for same day parcel delivery have already missed the post. The question is not "which service" but "which type of service can even do it today".

The four ways to move a parcel in the UK

Option	Typical speed	Best for	Weak spot
Standard parcel networks	Next day or longer	Routine, low-value parcels	No same-day collection, delivery window can be a full day
Royal Mail Special Delivery	Next working day by 1pm	Documents and small items with a deadline tomorrow	Not same day, and it goes through sorting offices
Courier booking platform (Hauly)	Same day, often within hours	Anything that must arrive today	Costs more than a network label
Booking a local firm by phone	Same day	Regular local runs	Price not always fixed, availability varies

If the parcel has to arrive today, only the last two options can do it. See same-day courier vs Royal Mail for the full comparison.

What same day parcel delivery costs

On Hauly, price comes from real road distance and the vehicle needed, with no account or hidden extras. Examples including card fee, standard next-day booking:

Vehicle	10 mi	30 mi	50 mi	100 mi	200 mi
Small van (parcels, documents)	£60.72	£60.72	£84.31	£140.21	£242.77
Medium van	£70.98	£70.98	£99.29	£165.34	£283.29
Long wheelbase (furniture)	£80.21	£80.21	£111.39	£184.83	£318.16
Luton (large furniture, pallets)	£103.80	£103.80	£141.54	£230.98	£395.08

Three rules explain the figures:

• Under 30 miles is a flat local price. A cross-town parcel costs the same as one 25 miles away.
• Urgency is a percentage on top. Within 1 hour adds 30% (minimum £30), within 4 hours adds 15%, same day adds 5%.
• Out of hours is a flat charge: £10 for evenings and £10 for weekends.

Tolls and the London Congestion Charge (£18) are passed through at cost when your route crosses them.

How fast is "same day"?

Same-day courier delivery is quick because the driver goes straight from A to B. A typical local job is collected and delivered within a few hours. Longer journeys take their real driving time. Collection time depends on driver availability near your postcode, so for anything critical choose the within-1-hour option and book early in the day.

Limits worth knowing before you book

• Size and weight. The vehicle decides the limit. A small van suits boxes and documents. For bulky or heavy items choose a bigger vehicle; our van size guide covers what fits.
• Prohibited goods. Couriers will not carry illegal items or dangerous goods. Check with the courier if you are unsure.
• Value. Hauly drivers carry goods-in-transit insurance with a minimum £10,000 cover per load. For higher-value items, tell us when booking.
• Both ends need to be reachable. Give a phone number for collection and delivery and say where to park.

How to book in 4 steps

1. Go to the quote page and enter the collection and delivery postcodes.
2. Choose what you are sending and how soon it must be collected.
3. Review the fixed price and pay. No account needed.
4. Follow the driver live and receive proof of delivery.
