Get an instant quoteTL;DR: Large parcels are where standard parcel services struggle, because they set limits on size and weight. A same-day van courier has no such problem: you pick a vehicle that fits, see a fixed price and a driver collects direct. Local prices run from £71 (medium van) to £104 (Luton).
Maybe it is a boxed monitor, a flat-pack wardrobe, a drum kit, a set of tyres or stock for a market stall. Whatever it is, if it is too big, too heavy or too awkward for the usual parcel label, a van courier is the practical answer.
Why large parcels are awkward with parcel networks
Parcel networks run on conveyor belts and roll cages. That makes them cheap for ordinary parcels, but each carrier sets its own limits on length, weight and shape, and oversized or awkward items are typically refused, surcharged or delayed. Always check the carrier's current limits before you rely on them.
A van courier skips the sorting system altogether. The driver loads at your door, drives and unloads at the destination, so the only limit is what fits in the vehicle.
Which vehicle for which parcel
| Your parcel | Vehicle | Local price from |
|---|---|---|
| Boxes, documents, a few parcels | Small van | £61 |
| Large boxes, fragile or awkward items, small furniture | Medium van | £71 |
| Bulky furniture, several large items | Long-wheelbase van | £80 |
| Pallets, full rooms, very heavy items | Luton van | £104 |
Longer journeys cost more in every size. A medium van is £99 at 50 miles and £165 at 100 miles; a Luton is £142 and £231. The full table is in our large item delivery guide, and the van size guide shows what fits where.
Measure first
Before you book, note:
- Length, width and height of the packed item (the longest side decides the vehicle).
- Weight. Anything you cannot lift alone needs a second pair of hands at both ends.
- Access. Stairs, narrow hallways, lifts and parking distance.
- Fragile points. Glass, screens or corners that need upright carriage.
Packing a large parcel
- Use a strong box or original packaging, and fill gaps so nothing shifts.
- Protect corners and screens with card or foam.
- Mark the box "this way up" if it matters.
- Tape a name and phone number on the outside.
- Photograph the item and packaging before collection. It helps if there is ever a claim.
Booking in 4 steps
- Open the quote page and enter the collection and delivery postcodes.
- Choose the item type that matches your parcel (large parcel, furniture or pallet).
- Pick the collection time. Same day, within 4 hours and within 1 hour are all available, with an urgency charge that is shown in the price.
- Pay the fixed price. Your driver is dispatched and you can follow the journey live.
There is no account to create and no cut-off time. Evening, overnight and weekend collections carry a flat out-of-hours charge shown before you pay.
Insurance and proof of delivery
All Hauly drivers carry goods-in-transit insurance with a minimum £10,000 cover per load. Tell us when booking if the item is worth more. Delivery is confirmed with signature or photo and GPS tracking.
